How to Export & Share Pix4D Projects

Streamlined workflow from Pix4D processing to published web presentation

1

Export Mesh from Pix4D

In Pix4Dmapper or Pix4Dmatic, generate and export your 3D Textured Mesh. Select GLB (binary glTF) format if available, or OBJ format. GLB is recommended for best web performance and single-file convenience.

Recommended Settings:

  • Format: GLB or OBJ
  • Texture: 4K (4096px) atlas
  • Geometry: Decimated mesh (LOD)
  • File size: < 200MB per file
2

Upload to Kroscloud

Upload your exported model to Kroscloud. Our platform automatically optimizes the viewing experience. Add value to your survey data with informational hotspots, measurements, and multimedia annotations.

Enhancement Tools:

  • Annotation markers
  • Audio descriptions
  • 360° panorama integration
  • Multi-date layer setup
3

Deliver to Clients

Share a secure link or embed the interactive 3D model directly into your client's report or project portal. Provide immediate access to site data without transferring massive files.

Delivery Options:

  • Password protected links
  • White-label embedding
  • Social media sharing
  • Mobile-ready viewing

Pix4D Projects Perfect for Online Delivery

Construction Site Monitoring

Share weekly or monthly drone maps processed in Pix4D. Use layers to show site evolution. Enable stakeholders to remotely inspect progress, logistics, and safety compliance without visiting the site.

Urban Planning & Real Estate

Present 3D city models and large property developments. Pix4Dmatic users can share large datasets with investors and city officials, providing an immersive context for new development projects.

Mining & Earthworks

Deliver stockpile surveys and quarry maps. Annotate volume calculations (from Pix4D) directly on the 3D model hotspots, giving clients a clear visual reference for the data.

Infrastructure Inspection

Share detailed inspection models of towers, bridges, and roofs. Pix4Dmapper's high-detail meshes can be annotated with issue markers, creating an interactive inspection report.

Pix4D Export Specifications

Recommended settings for Pix4Dmapper & Pix4Dmatic exports

GLB/OBJ Export Requirements

  • Format: Binary glTF (.glb)
  • Maximum File Size: 200MB
  • Texture Resolution: 4K recommended, BASISU texture compression supported
  • Texture Format: JPG or PNG (for OBJ)
  • Coordinate System: Local or offset (keep close to 0,0,0)
  • Multi-layer: Align all exports to same origin

Pix4D Optimization Best Practices

  • Mesh Decimation: Use Pix4D's "Number of Triangles" limit or "LOD" settings to create a web-friendly version (100k-500k polys).
  • Texture Atlas: Ensure "Generate Texture Atlas" is checked in Pix4D export options.
  • Tiling: Avoid tiled exports (multiple obj files); aim for a single mesh file.
  • Origin Point: For multi-temporal datasets, ensure all projects share the same coordinate system/offset.
  • Cleanup: Use Pix4D's clean up tools to remove floating noise/sky artifacts before export.
  • Verification: Check your GLB file size before upload to ensure fast loading for clients.

Pix4D Integration FAQs

Which Pix4D software versions are supported?

Kroscloud supports 3D model exports from the entire Pix4D suite, including Pix4Dmapper, Pix4Dmatic, Pix4Dsurvey, and Pix4Dcatch. As long as you can export a textured mesh in GLB or OBJ format, it is compatible with our viewer.

How do I handle large Pix4D datasets for web viewing?

For large survey sites, we recommend generating a specific "web LOD" during the Pix4D export step. Reduce the triangle count to around 200,000-500,000 and use 4K textures. This maintains visual fidelity while ensuring the model loads instantly on client devices.

Can I display point clouds from Pix4D?

Currently, Kroscloud is optimized for textured meshes (3D models). Meshes generally provide a better visual experience for non-technical clients compared to point clouds. We recommend generating a mesh from your point cloud in Pix4D before exporting.

Does it support georeferencing?

The viewer uses a local coordinate system for smooth 3D navigation. However, relative scale and dimensions are preserved, allowing for accurate visualization. You can add georeference information in the project description or annotations.

Can I share private projects?

Yes. Kroscloud offers robust privacy settings. You can make presentations public, unlisted (link only), or password-protected. This is ideal for confidential infrastructure or legal survey projects.
