Upload your first 2D map

A 2D map in Kroscloud is your own image turned into a fast, zoomable, interactive map that runs in any web browser. Upload a picture, drop pins on it, and share it with a link or embed it in your own website. It's great for two things in particular: building your own GPS-enabled maps, and sharing very high-resolution images that stay smooth to explore.

Two ways to use a 2D map
  • Make your own interactive map. Upload a floor plan, site plan, or a campus / park / property map, add clickable points of interest, and georeference it so on-site visitors see their live GPS position on your map.
  • Share a high-resolution image. Upload a huge image — an aerial photo, a technical drawing, a scanned document, a gigapixel photo — and visitors can zoom and pan it instantly, without downloading the whole file.

What you can upload

A 2D map starts from a single JPG or PNG image. When you upload it, Kroscloud slices it into a deep-zoom tile pyramid — many small tiles at several zoom levels. Visitors then only ever download the small part of the image they're actually looking at, so even a gigapixel image opens fast and stays smooth on phones and laptops alike.

How big can it be?
Both the file size and the image resolution depend on your plan (compare plans):
  • File size: up to 200 MB on Free, 300 MB on Premium, 600 MB on Business & Enterprise.
  • Resolution: up to 100 megapixels (no side longer than 16,384 px) on Free; up to about 1,000 megapixels — roughly a gigapixel — (no side longer than 32,768 px) on Premium and Business.

Upload your map, step by step

1. Start a new 2D map

Sign in and open My board. Click Create 2D Map to open the 2D upload page.

2. Choose your image

Select your JPG or PNG — or drag and drop it onto the page. After the file finishes uploading you'll see “Processing image, please wait…” while Kroscloud builds the zoomable tiles. Very large images can take a few minutes, so don't leave the page until it's done.

3. Preview and name it

Your map appears in a zoomable preview. Give it a title (you can change it any time), an optional description, choose whether it's private, and pick a folder.

4. Save

Click Save — Kroscloud creates your map and takes you straight into the editor. Your map is also saved to My board, where you can reopen it any time.

5. Make it interactive

In the editor you can add points of interest (with audio), stack switchable layers, anchor the map to GPS coordinates, and turn on measurement. New to the editor? Start with the editor guide.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to do
It won't accept my file 2D maps accept JPG and PNG images only. Export or convert other formats (TIFF, PDF, RAW…) to JPG or PNG first.
My image is too large to upload Check both limits for your plan: file size (Free 200 MB, Premium 300 MB, Business/Enterprise 600 MB) and resolution (Free up to 100 MPx / 16,384 px per side; Premium & Business up to ~1,000 MPx / 32,768 px per side). Resize the image or upgrade.
Processing is taking a while Large images are tiled on the server, which can take a few minutes. Keep the page open until it finishes.
I want to replace the image later A replacement image must match the original's exact width and height. If your new image is a different size, create a new map instead.
