Upload your first 3D model
Kroscloud turns a 3D model — a photogrammetry scan or a model you built by hand — into an interactive 3D scene that runs in any web browser. Once it's uploaded you can add points of interest with audio, split it into layers, anchor it to real-world GPS, let visitors measure it, and then share it with a single link or embed it in your own website. This guide takes you from your model file to your first live scene.
What you can upload
Kroscloud accepts two kinds of 3D files. If your model is in another format (FBX, STL, and so on), just convert it to GLB first in your 3D software.
| Format | How to upload it | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
GLB .glb |
Upload the .glb file directly. |
Recommended. It's the web-ready format and loads fastest. Make sure textures are embedded inside the file. |
| OBJ (zipped) | Put the .obj, its .mtl and all texture images into one .zip and upload the ZIP. |
Kroscloud converts it to GLB for you automatically (you'll see “Converting 3D file…”). The ZIP must contain exactly one .obj. |
A couple of technical notes for GLB files: Kroscloud supports the KHR_texture_basisu (KTX2) texture
compression and KHR_materials_unlit extensions, but it does not support
Draco mesh compression — re-export with Draco turned off if your exporter enables it.
Size & performance
Kroscloud won't block a detailed model, but very large ones can struggle on phones and tablets. For the full numbers and texture recommendations, see minimum requirements for 3D models.
Upload your model, step by step
1. Start a new 3D scene
Sign in and open My board. Click Create 3D Scene to open the 3D upload page.
2. Choose your file
Select your .glb file, or a .zip containing your OBJ — or drag and drop it onto the page.
Kroscloud uploads the file (and, for a ZIP, converts it to GLB automatically); larger files simply take a little
longer.
3. Set the starting view
Your model opens in a 3D preview right on the upload page. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, and frame the view you'd like visitors to see first. You can also straighten the model (rotate it on the X, Y or Z axis) if it came in sideways. Don't worry about getting it perfect — you can fine-tune the camera later in the editor.
4. Name it and save
Give your scene a title (you can change it any time), an optional description, choose whether it's private, and pick a folder. Click Save — Kroscloud creates your scene and takes you straight into the editor.
5. Make it interactive
You'll land right in the editor, ready to bring your scene to life — add points of interest (with audio), organise it into layers, anchor it to GPS coordinates, and enable measurement. New to the editor? Start with the editor guide. Your scene is also saved to My board, where you can reopen it any time.
What you can build next
Uploading the model is just the start. With Kroscloud's interactive features you can turn a static scan into a proper guided experience:
- Points of interest with audio — clickable hotspots with text, images, YouTube videos or a spoken audio guide.
- Panoramic points — drop visitors into a 360° view and chain several scenes into one tour.
- Layers — let visitors switch between versions of a model, for example a castle's current ruins versus a reconstruction of how it once looked.
- Georeferencing — on-site visitors see their live GPS position on your 3D model.
- Measurement — visitors measure distances (and elevation) right in the scene — valuable for heritage, education and real estate.
Real projects are built on exactly this flow. 3DČesko, for instance, presents interactive 3D tours of Czech castles — with audio-guided points of interest, switchable historical layers, and on-site GPS positioning. Browse the showcases for more inspiration, then share or embed your finished scene anywhere.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
It won't accept my .obj file |
A bare .obj can't be uploaded on its own. Put the .obj, its .mtl and every texture into a single .zip and upload that — Kroscloud converts it for you. |
| My model appears grey / untextured | GLB: re-export with textures embedded in the file. Zipped OBJ: make sure the .mtl and all texture images are included in the ZIP. |
| Error about “external textures” in my GLB | Your GLB points to separate image files. Re-export it with the textures embedded inside the .glb. |
| My file is too big to upload | Check your plan's limit (Free 200 MB, Premium 300 MB, Business/Enterprise 600 MB). Reduce the model with decimation and/or smaller textures, or upgrade. |
| Upload fails mentioning Draco / compression | Kroscloud doesn't support Draco mesh compression — re-export your GLB with Draco turned off. |
| The scene loads slowly for visitors | Lower the vertex count (aim for ~1 million) and texture resolution. See the decimation guide. |
